This workbook is designed to give students an understanding of the French language so that they may read, write, and speak it accurately, with correct rhythm, and with assurance. The presentation begins with names and sounds of the letters of the French alphabet. There is drill on the names and sounds of the consonants. One at a time the book presents the single vowels.
Students learn vocabulary words in relationship to the phonetic structure of words. The presentation of gender sounds is forceful. There is provision for sufficient repetition to establish accuracy. Students gain control over the agreement and the placement of adjectives through special exercises that give sufficient opportunities for application. Stress is upon the present tense of verbs. Sentence structure begins with the first lesson. Students learn how to construct sentences and to form questions.
